A Sonic in Giddings
Where it all started...
In 1978, 18-year-old John King took a summer job helping build a Sonic in Giddings, Texas. He looked at what they were doing and thought he could do it himself. Within a year, he had started King Construction.
What followed was decades of national commercial work building quick-service restaurants, fuel stations, and corporate retail projects across more than 30 states. The work demanded precision, logistics discipline, and a level of site organization that John became known for long before most in the industry were approaching it the same way.
He built a career on performance and the kind of reputation that only comes from doing the work right, consistently, over a long period of time. When he eventually shifted his focus back to Central Texas and his family, the foundation he had built did not disappear. It became the ground everything else was built on.
Going Deep in a Market King Construction Knows
When John shifted the company's focus to Central Texas, it was a decision to build something more durable: long-term subcontractor relationships, deep market knowledge, and the kind of reputation that only comes from doing great work in the same place for a long time.
Many of the trade partners and subcontractors who first worked alongside King Construction in the 1990s are still part of the team today. That continuity reflects shared standards, mutual respect, and partnerships built over decades of showing up and doing the work well.
King Construction has served the City of Round Rock, local developers, architects, and businesses across the Austin metro for decades. Round Rock is not just where the office is. It is where this team is from. With work now expanding into the Brazos Valley, that same approach carries forward, organically and carefully, with the right people in place.

JD and Katie King are John's children. They grew up on job sites. The standards their father built this company on were not handed to them in a meeting. They were instilled long before either of them ever picked up a hard hat. JD spent over a decade running every estimate himself, building the kind of hands-on experience that only comes from being close to the work for a very long time. Katie has developed the operational and business infrastructure of the company with the same level of care and commitment.
Together, they lead a team that carries forward everything King Construction was built on while continuing to grow its capabilities, expand its portfolio, and deepen its presence across Central Texas. The foundation is strong. The best work is still ahead.
